My name is Dr. Kathy Smolewska (or Dr. Kathy), and I am a registered Psychologist in Ontario. I specialize in both Clinical Neuropsychology and Clinical Psychology, which means I help people understand how their brain works and how it affects their learning, emotions, and everyday life. I work with children, teenagers, adults, and seniors, offering different types of assessments to help figure out how best to support each person’s unique needs.

I completed my master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology at the University of Waterloo. During my training, I focused on Neuropsychology, which is the study of how the brain affects thinking, behaviour, and emotions. I did practical training at private practices and hospitals (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute). I also completed a specialized internship in Clinical Neuropsychology at Hamilton Health Sciences, where I worked with people who had brain injuries, strokes, and children with different brain-related challenges.

Before starting my own practice, I worked as a Neuropsychologist at Hamilton Health Sciences. There, I helped assess and support patients with brain injuries, strokes, epilepsy and their families, and I also supervised and taught other professionals. I have also worked with toddlers and their families in the Neonatal Follow-Up Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital, and I have supported children with epilepsy through supervision within the Comprehensive Pediatric Epilepsy Program. At Hamilton Health Sciences, I was the Director of Training for the Neuropsychology Residency Program, helping to train the next generation of Neuropsychologists.

In addition to my clinical work, I enjoy teaching and sharing knowledge. I am a part-time Clinical Adjunct Faculty member at the Centre for Mental Health Research and Treatment at the University of Waterloo, and I was previously a part-time Clinical Adjunct Faculty member within the Department of Psychiatry at McMaster University.

My goal is to provide a safe, caring, and supportive environment for every family and individual I work with. I understand that seeking help for your child or yourself can feel overwhelming, and I am here to guide you through the assessment process, answer your questions, and help you understand the results. Together, we can work towards finding the best ways to support thinking abilities, learning, emotional well-being, and daily life.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to working with you and your family!

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter and son, and our two cats (Toby and Palito), as well as other family members and friends. I like to read (mostly audio books for the time being), watch movies, and go for nature walks with the family. I really enjoy decadent desserts and love animals – especially cats.
