What Individual Adult Therapy Can Help With
Anxiety & Panic Attacks
If worry, tension, or panic are running the show, adult therapy and CBT techniques help you calm your body, steady your thoughts, and feel more in control of your day.
Obsessive–Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Intrusive thoughts and rituals don’t have to run your life. We’ll reduce compulsions and rebuild self-trust, one small step at a time.
Depression & Emotional Numbness
Low mood, depression, detachment, and hopelessness can make everything feel heavy. We create space to unpack it and reconnect with your values and purpose.
Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD) & Trauma
When the past feels present, healing needs care and pace. We focus on safety, meaning-making, and settling your nervous system so you can move forward. Our EMDR therapists in Waterloo gently guide this process to reduce triggers and restore safety in daily life.
Anger & Emotion Regulation
Big reactions and shutdowns can strain your days and relationships. Together we’ll spot the cues and practice skills that protect what matters.
Burnout & Work-Related Stress
Exhaustion and pressure can blur every boundary. We’ll reset rhythms, honour your limits, and restore energy without losing your drive.
ADHD & Executive Functioning
Focus, planning, and follow-through get easier with supports that fit your brain. Our neuro-affirming approach turns effort into progress you can feel.
Autism (ASD)
We adapt care to your sensory profile and communication style, easing masking pressure and making life more workable.
Grief & Loss
Heartache deserves compassion and understanding. We support you in carrying the pain of grief and loss with care, honouring your love, and helping you gradually reconnect with daily life.
Mood Disorders & Bipolar
Highs and lows can disrupt sleep, energy, and connection. We’ll map patterns, build stability, and create a plan for steadier days.
Tic Disorders & Tourette Syndrome
If tics are getting in the way, we use practical strategies such as CBIT to manage urges, reduce interference, and grow confidence at school, work, and home.
Gender Exploration & Identity
Exploring who you are deserves safety and respect. We offer affirming support to clarify needs, grow self-acceptance, and plan next steps that feel right for you.

Questions About Adult Therapy
I don’t have a mental illness. Can I still receive therapy?
How long will I be in therapy? Will it take long to work?
The length of therapy varies because everyone has different needs and goals. Some people benefit from 5 to 6 sessions for an immediate concern, while others prefer ongoing support over months or longer. Many clients notice a sense of relief within 2 to 3 sessions because they feel heard and supported. Progress often happens faster when you are engaged in the process. Your therapist will check in regularly and tailor care to your goals.
Can I stop therapy whenever I want and/or find a different therapist?
Yes. Fit matters. Your therapist should match your style and needs. If an approach is not working, tell your therapist so you can adjust together. If it still does not feel like a good fit, you are free to pause or switch. We can offer referrals to another clinician at Colibri NeuroWellness or in the community. Therapy is always voluntary.
What should I expect in a typical session?
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential, with a few legal exceptions related to safety. Your therapist will explain these limits clearly so you can feel safe sharing openly. For virtual care, we use secure platforms to protect your privacy.
