It’s okay if parenthood is not what you expected
From the newborn months to the teen years, parenting can feel heavy.
It’s tough on you, too. You want to be a better parent and learn what works, but just as you find your footing, they’re on to the next phase.
With newborns, you wonder if you’re doing it right. With kids, you’re figuring out tantrums and big feelings. With teens, you’re hoping the conversation lasts more than a few seconds.
You’re juggling advice from teachers, TikTok tips, and your own instincts. Some days you feel like you’re walking on eggshells; other days you just want you and your kid to feel like yourselves again.
At Colibri NeuroWellness, we help you find simple steps that fit your family and create steadier days through every stage of parenthood.
If you’re looking for help for teenagers, we can also coordinate with our teen therapists so support at home and at school lines up.

What Parenting Support Can Do For You
Parenting can be a lot at times.
Parent counselling in Kitchener-Waterloo helps you understand yourself more deeply, feel steadier in your role, and build routines and relationships that work.
From pregnancy and the postpartum months to school-age worries and teen years, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure. Work stress, relationship ups and downs, sleep deprivation, feeding challenges, tantrums, screen time, and big life changes can leave you wondering where to turn.
At Colibri NeuroWellness, we offer parent counselling, including prenatal and postpartum support. We can help with anxious thoughts, low mood, birth or NICU stress, bonding concerns, and the mental load of early parenthood. We also support everyday challenges with kids and teens, like emotion regulation, routines, school stress, friendships, and behaviour that feels “too much.”
We tailor sessions to your personal needs. When helpful, we include co-parents and caregivers. We draw from CBT, EFT, play-based therapy, our Circle of Security Parenting Program (COSP), and practical scripts you can use at home, at school, and in the community. You will leave with clear steps to try between sessions.
- Worry, intrusive thoughts, or constant second-guessing about your child or your parenting
- Sleeplessness, exhaustion, aches and pains, or appetite changes
- Feeling lonely, disconnected from your partner, or unsure how to ask for support
- Low mood, “mom/dad guilt,” or losing your sense of self outside of parenting
- Conflict about routines, discipline, or roles that keeps you stuck
- Stress from birth trauma, fertility journeys, adoption, fostering, or reunification
Parenting support can help everyone breathe easier.
If you’ve been searching for counselling services and want guidance that actually fits your family, we’ll help you choose a place to start.

What Parenting Support
Can Help With
Postpartum Anxiety & Depression
Sleepless nights and constant what-ifs can make the early months feel overwhelming. We offer gentle, practical tools to steady mood, quiet worry, and help you feel more like yourself.
Postpartum OCD
Intrusive thoughts, checking, or avoidance can be scary and confusing. We help you understand what is happening, lower distress, and build safe, doable steps that fit daily life.
Prenatal Anxiety & Depression
Pregnancy can bring big emotions and nonstop “what ifs.” In therapy, we help you name fears, support your body and mind, and create routines that make each day more workable.
Trauma Related to Birth or Parenting
Birth complications, NICU stays, medical procedures, or stressful early caregiving can linger. During parenting support, we go at a safe pace to process what happened and settle the nervous system.
Conflict Management
Co-parenting stress and communication breakdowns drain everyone. We teach calm conversation skills, repair steps, and shared plans so you all feel more on the same team.
Burnout & Stress
The mental load is real. In therapy for parents, we reset rhythms, honour limits, and build practical supports so you can show up with more energy and less overwhelm.
Attachment Issues
Bonding takes time and support. We focus on attuned connection, responsive routines, and simple co-regulation tools to strengthen your relationship.
Support for Adoptive Parents, Foster Parents, & Reunification
Transitions, identity questions, and complex systems need specialized care. We provide trauma-informed, culturally humble support for attachment, grief, and everyday routines.
When it’s useful, we’ll connect you with our child and teen clinicians for children’s counselling or teen support alongside parent sessions.

Questions About Parenting Support
Will my child be involved in our sessions?
Often, parenting support focuses on working with parents or caregivers, but children may be included when helpful. If your teen needs dedicated support, we can add help for teenagers alongside parent sessions so skills transfer at home and school. Clinicians might observe parent–child interactions to highlight communication, co-regulation, and attachment needs. Your child may also join talk-based or play-based sessions (with or without you) so skills transfer to home, school, and community. This is part of our whole-person approach in Waterloo and online across Ontario.
What if my partner does not want to attend sessions?
We start with your circle of control. Together, we’ll support your confidence, clarify your parenting values, and build practical strategies for everyday stressors like communication, routines, boundaries, and self-care. If a partner wants to join later, we can fold in couples or co-parenting work to align on next steps.
I’ve already tried so many different things. Why don’t books, podcasts, and videos help?
Most online advice is general and may not fit your child’s unique profile or your family’s culture and dynamics. That’s completely understandable, as everyone is different and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
One-on-one parent therapy gives you tailored strategies that work at home. When appropriate, we align with children’s counselling or teen services for consistent follow-through. We draw from CBT, ACT, attachment-based tools, Circle of Security, and OT-informed strategies so plans actually work at home.
Does your practice support foster parents, adoptive parents, or legal guardians?
Yes. We understand the unique layers in foster care, adoption, and reunification, such as grief, identity, transitions, and complex systems. We offer trauma-informed, attachment-focused parenting support to build strong, supportive relationships with your children, no matter your family’s background or how you became a parent.
Do you offer parental support during pregnancy?
Absolutely. Our clinicians are here to support parents even before your baby arrives. Getting ready for a new child can be stressful, and those feelings can continue or even grow after birth. By working with a therapist during pregnancy, you can learn helpful coping strategies and make a plan for a positive start as a parent. This early support can make a big difference for you and your family.
