What ADHD Therapy & Executive Function Coaching
Can Help With
Inattention & Distractibility
If focus slips and digital pull wins, ADHD therapy & executive functioning help you build focus habits, reduce distractions, and use cue-based systems that stick.
Hyperactivity & Restlessness
When your body needs to move, we channel movement, add sensory strategies, and design routines that support regulation.
Impulsivity & Risk-Taking
If you act before you think, we practice pause skills, plan micro-steps, and protect what matters most.
Executive Functioning (Time, Planning, Organization)
Procrastination & Task Initiation
Getting started can sometimes feel impossible. In ADHD therapy, we break tasks into tiny actions, create “first-step” plans, and beat task paralysis.
Emotional Dysregulation & Rejection Sensitivity
When feelings swing fast or criticism stings, in ADHD coaching, we name cues, soothe the nervous system, and respond with self-respect instead of shame.
Sleep & Routine Challenges
If nights are wired and mornings wobble, during therapy for ADHD, we set wind-down rituals, morning anchors, and realistic weekly rhythms.
School or Work Performance & Accommodations
Expectations can sometimes feel unclear or unfair. In ADHD therapy, we’ll map strengths, set supports, and practice advocacy scripts for teachers and managers.
We also work closely with occupational therapists when occupational therapy for ADHD or ASD can enhance regulation or classroom/workplace supports.
Social Skills & Communication
If cues get missed or conflicts flare, during ADHD therapy, we use scripts, perspective-taking, and kinder boundaries for friendships and teams.
For children, pediatric occupational therapy or OT services may complement these sessions to support social-emotional learning and sensory needs.
Co-Occurring Anxiety or Depression
When mood and motivation dip, your ADHD therapist will help you steady the day with values-based actions, thereby reducing avoidance and rebuilding momentum.

Questions About ADHD Therapy & Executive Function Coaching
What is ADHD, and what causes ADHD?
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a real neurological and developmental condition that affects focus, time management, executive functioning, emotion regulation, and behaviour. ADHD can be influenced by a combination of factors, including genetics, brain development, prenatal environment, and birth conditions (for example, low birth weight). While early adversity can play a role, ADHD is not caused by poor parenting, personality traits, or laziness. This is part of the foundation of our neuro-affirming care at Colibri NeuroWellness in Kitchener–Waterloo and online across Ontario.
Can ADHD be treated?
Yes. ADHD can be treated with practical skill development, strength-based therapy, social supports, and (when appropriate) medication. ADHD is not “cured,” but combining these treatments can make symptoms much more manageable at school, work, and home. Our team focuses on executive functioning supports (planning, organization, time management) and can collaborate with your prescriber or provide referral pathways when medication may help.
For younger clients, occupational therapy for ADHD or OT services for kids may be part of the plan, focusing on regulation, routines, and motor or sensory support.
I keep hearing the terms “neurodivergent” and “masking.” What do those even mean?
“Neurodivergent” describes people whose brains are wired differently than what is considered “neurotypical.” It is not a medical diagnosis; it is a clear, respectful way to recognize real-life differences in attention, learning, and sensory processing.
“Masking” means intentionally or unintentionally hiding or compensating for those differences to appear more “typical.” Masking can look like copying others, suppressing impulses, overcorrecting mistakes, and working much harder to meet expectations, often leading to burnout and missed or delayed diagnosis.
Our neuro-affirming approach aims to reduce masking pressure and build authentic strategies that fit you.
Does ADHD look different in different genders? Does that matter to treatment?
ADHD can present differently across genders, so treatment is tailored accordingly. In many males, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and frustration are more visible and may be identified earlier. In many females, inattentiveness, daydreaming, lower confidence, and masking are more common, which can lead to later diagnosis or misdiagnosis as anxiety or depression. This matters for care: Our clinicians look for these patterns and personalize ADHD therapy & executive functioning supports to each person’s presentation.
Am I too old to get ADHD treatment?
No one is too old. ADHD is a lifelong condition. Symptoms may shift with age. For example, hyperactivity often decreases, but challenges with focus, organization, and time management can remain. It is never too late to seek ADHD therapy & executive functioning skills and build tools that make daily life more workable. We support adults, teens, and children in Kitchener–Waterloo and across Ontario via secure online care.
